5 THINGS I LEARNED AT A VEGAN FEST

5 THINGS I LEARNED AT A VEGAN FEST

1. VEGANS EAT DONUTS, COOKIES, PIZZA, AND TACOS

YES YES THEY DO!!! People have this false impression that all vegans eat is veggies, greens, and are constantly drinking smoothies to get their nutrients. This is ALL WRONG! Vegans eat everything non vegans eat including donuts, cookies, pizza, tacos, grilled cheese, and ice cream! The only difference is all of these foods are made with non-dairy products whether it be an almond milk, vegan cheese, or something  soy based. Vegans are able to enjoy these foods in the cleanest way possible by avoiding all the dairy and meat out there

2. VEGANS DRINK MILK

And in my opinion its wayyyy better tasting than your regular milk. Granted I never was a big fan of milk to begin with growing up but I am absolutely in LOVE with almond milk. My absolute favorite is SILK Vanilla Almond Milk BUT at this festival I was introduced to many different flavors of Califia Farms. My favorite was the Peppermint Mocha Cold Brew! So yummy

3. BETTER BEANS ARE GOOD AS F

I was introduced to Better Beans before this particular festival but this was my first opportunity to try all the flavors they have and man I was blown away! My favorites were the Roasted Chipotle Dip and the Three Sisters Chili. I find this product at my local Whole Foods. I also made a nacho recipe recently using them and it was super delicious! Link to the right! I especially like how I can eat these beans guilt-free! Thinking about eating refried beans from my favorite Mexican restaurants actually kind of grosses me out now thinking about it. They are made with lard! What even is lard... I am honestly too afraid to look it up! So there is that!!! Here is the new, healthy alternative

4. WHO NEEDS MEAT WHEN YOU CAN HAVE HUMMUS?

Believe me when I say there are other ways for vegans to get their source of protein other than relying on meats! Hummus is super packed with protein and most all hummus brands are vegan UNLESS the recipe calls for yogurt. Be sure to check your labels and if you are buying from a farmers market it doesn't hurt to just ask! And in case you haven't experimented with hummus yet it goes great with veggies, (I personally dip bell peppers in my hummus) tastes amazing on a toasted sandwich, and you can even throw some on top of a yummy salad

5. VEGANS ARE EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGABLE

Think about it. How do these people actually know so much about what is in our foods and why do you think they chose to be vegans? Chances are they have done extensive research on the topic! I'm sure you wouldn't choose a lifestyle you knew nothing about! Respect what they have to say, you don't have to agree with it all but hopefully you will take away something that can lead to a positive change in your diet and in your life. I am not vegan but I have taken little tid bits here and there and have incorporated them into my lifestyle like for example switching to vegan cheese. And I would be lying if I said my body doesn't feel a difference! So keep that in mind
